“Time for everything = time for nothing”
Do you want zero happiness? zero success? zero love?
Of course you don't. Neither do I.
But when I was listening to a podcast episode one day, and heard Mental Performance Coach Tim Grover (coach to elite athletes, like Michael Jordan and the late Kobe Bryant) ask these questions, I was intrigued. Why would he even ask that?
He went on to explain something that created a whole new mindset for me.
It changed how I view my time, my commitments, my thoughts, and oddly gave me the permission to say no to things that don't align with the season of life I'm currently in.
This is what he said:
“Everyone is always told they need ‘balance’ in their lives, but do you know what balance means on a scale? It means that everything needs to equal zero, one thing has to cancel the other thing out in order to be in perfect balance on a scale. You cannot be the best in something, if you allot the same amount of time to everything in your life at all times. Because allowing the same amount of time and energy to everything in your life at all times, will make everything equal zero. You'll just be average in all of these areas.”
“In order to be the best, you must realize that there will be very little balance. You have to decide when and where to tip the scale. You have to decide when and where you're going to make shifts. Because time for everything = time for nothing.”
“Get rid of the non-essentials in your life – people, things, thoughts. This may upset people or make you uncomfortable, but realize that you don't find balance, you create it. And you want to create a balance that is unique to you.”
Wow, right?
How many times have you said, “I just need to find a balance"?
Maybe the first step to creating your unique balance, is actually deciding and committing to what's important to you, and having the courage to delete the rest – people, things, thoughts.
What non-essentials do you have in your circle?
Get rid of them, because you are not here to be average.
